About Express Accounts

The Appalachian Express Account is an optional account that may be set up for a student’s convenience. This account allows for funds to be deposited and then accessed by the AppCard in specific campus locations. The Express Account is separate from the Meal Account, but it is still accessed by the AppCard.

How Does it Work

Your AppCard is already electronically encoded to give you access to campus events and fee-supported activities. By adding an Express Account, you can purchase goods and services all across campus. It works just like a debit card, and you can deposit additional funds at any time either in the AppCard Office or online. Balances carry over from Fall to Spring semester and end on May Commencement.  The Express Account DOES NOT REPLACE the meal account for on-campus students!  There is no service charge for this account.

How Do I Open or Add to an Express Account

You may activate or add to an Express Account one of the following ways:

• By visiting or calling the AppCard Office (828-262-6141) during regular business hours and making a deposit (cash, check, Visa or MasterCard / credit cards only for phone orders).
• By mailing a check along with the completed registration form included in the below brochure to the AppCard office.  There is a $20.00 minimum. 
• By logging onto your AppalNET account and going to APPCARD ONLINE. There is a $50.00 minimum to make a deposit online (Visa or MasterCard).
• No Meal Account money may be transferred to the Appalachian Express Account.

Where Can I Use It

The Express Account can be used in:

• All Food Services locations (including the Bake Shop and Catering)  Note:  The Express Account DOES NOT REPLACE the meal account for on-campus students!
• Athletics Ticket Office
• Belk Library & Information Commons for fines, fees and copies
• Computer labs for printing
• Concessions at home football games and the Holmes Convocation Center
• Crossroads Coffee House & The Wired Scholar Café
• Educational Media Services for supplies, duplication services and more
• Medical Center for prescriptions and other charges
• Outdoor Programs for equipment rental
• Parking Deck (Rivers Street) for fees
• Some Laundry Machines
• Student Accounts Office
• Student Union for ticket sales
• The Markets (campus convenience stores)
• The University Bookstore
• University Recreation for class fees
• Vending Machines
